Tax Director, Trusts & Estates

Hybrid (Gaithersburg, MD at least 3x per week)

Lanigan Ryan is seeking an experienced Tax Director, Trusts & Estates to join our collaborative, people-first team. In this leadership role, you’ll partner with high-net-worth clients to provide thoughtful and comprehensive estate planning, trust taxation, and fiduciary compliance services. What You’ll Do

  • Lead and review high-level individual, fiduciary, estate, and gift tax returns
  • Lead and review exempt organization filings for family foundations and related charities, including Forms 990, 990-PF, and 990-T, and oversee compliance calendars and state charitable registrations
  • Ensure compliance with multi-state probate, inheritance, estate, and individual income tax statutes and regulations, coordinating filings and requirements across jurisdictions
  • Oversee preparation of estate, trust, and guardianship fiduciary accountings to ensure transparency and accountability in estate and asset management
  • Research federal and state tax laws by situs, prepare technical tax memorandums, and develop innovative tax strategies tailored to the unique needs of clients
  • Provide ongoing consulting and scenario modeling, including multi-year income, estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer, and fiduciary tax projections, estimated tax planning, and distribution strategies for individuals, trusts, estates, and private foundations.
  • Review and analyze estate planning-related legal documents, ensuring that all strategies align with the clients’ goals and legal requirements
  • Manage multiple client engagements (and all aspects of client accounts), fostering trusted, long-term relationships
  • Mentor and coach team members, providing timely, constructive feedback and leadership
  • Participate in business development through networking, speaking engagements, and publishing thought leadership articles
