We’re more than just your accountant
Lanigan Ryan was founded in 1990, when founders Frank Lanigan, David R. Malcolm and W. Kelly Ryan recognized a need in the accounting realm for CPAs that were strongly committed to excellence and sincerely cared about the well-being of their team and clients. More than 30 years later, it is these same foundational elements that have strengthened our culture and informed our growth, guiding us toward lasting relationships and new initiatives that enhance our mission to better serve the community.

Partner with a team that is uncompromising in the pursuit of your success
Our collaborative spirit and team-based approach ensures that every client is given a dedicated team, that will treat their business as if it were their own. This fostered staff continuity provides a better client experience which, in turn, offers our team members the opportunity to see the impact of their work and success of their clients, year after year. That’s why so many clients and team members alike have been with us for more than 10 years and are fully integrated into the Lanigan Ryan family.
Our organizational ambition to create community and to aid in its advancement has garnered recognition by local industry organizations and a high level of respect by banks, bonding agencies, sureties, insurance companies, law firms, and other service providers with which we work closely. The depth and strength of our connections to these critical groups, gives our firm the ability to take a 360-degree approach when addressing the needs of our clients.
The sum of these long-standing relationships not only contributes to our expertise but feeds our aspiration to provide compounding value to our clients, throughout the entire lifecycle of their businesses and personal journeys. All of our accounting staff are Certified Public Accountants or are currently working toward their certification; while such firmwide certification is not required by our profession, we feel strongly that this sets us apart in the superior quality of our work.
Finding the best solutions for our clients, when they need them, even if they don’t know it yet – that’s what continues to drive us forward.

Montgomery County Chamber of CommerceServing the Community on Committees and Boards
It was our founders’ belief that to be relevant, we needed to be involved in the organizations and industries that mattered to our clients and our community, in addition to those of our own. It was this philosophy that prompted and continues to encourage many team members to volunteer and serve on committees and boards of local charities and professional not-for-profit organizations including, but not limited, to positions such as: The treasurer of the VA Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, the treasurer of the Mid-Atlantic Surety Association, and the financial advisor to board of directors for the American Subcontractors Association of Metro Washington.
Feeding the Soul
During our annual Community Volunteer Day at Manna Food Center’s warehouse, team members spent their time sorting and organizing food items for distribution to local families and children in need, also ensuring that food products were safe to hand out. Donations were divided into shares for families and into smaller portions for children to take home over the weekend when not in school.
Furnishing Homes & Resumes
During our annual Community Volunteer Day at A Wider Circle, team members sorted donations to determine whether they were in dignity condition, cleaned kitchenware items, moved furniture from the warehouse to the showroom, and assisted warehouse guests in loading furniture into their vehicles for home delivery. The team at AWC was also given the honor of taking part in the not-for-profit’s Workforce Development Program through the scheduled resume and interview workshop. Volunteers who assisted with this program spent time with the registered attendees to provide a supportive environment and individual attention while developing the participants’ resumes and interview skills.
Annual Golf for Charity Tournament
Lanigan Ryan held its first annual Golf for Charity tournament in 1992, aimed at raising both awareness and financial contributions for worthy causes that personally touched our community, while also providing our team the chance to spend the day with our extended firm family of clients and friends. Over the years, the tournament has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to local not-for-profits, including Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children, N Street Village, the Maryland Family Network, Madison House Autism Foundation, and more.
