On Friday, November 18th 2016, Lanigan, Ryan completed its first annual community volunteer day. As the name would imply, the goal of the day was to spend time devoted to helping the organizations of our local community. Although we pride ourselves in the support that we are able to provide through our annual Golf for Charity event, we wanted to build on that momentum by taking a more active role in bettering the neighborhood that we call home.
Our firm split off into two teams on Friday: one team stationed at the Manna Food Center warehouse in Gaithersburg and one team stationed at A Wider Circle‘s warehouse in Silver Spring.
Team Manna spent their time sorting and organizing food items for distribution to local families and children in need, also ensuring that food products were safe to hand out. Donations were divided into shares for families and into smaller portions for children to take home over the weekend when not in school.
Team A Wider Circle divvied tasks among group members including the sorting of donations to determine whether they were in “dignity condition”, cleaning kitchenware items, moving furniture from the warehouse to the showroom, and assisting warehouse guests load furniture into their vehicles for home delivery. The team at AWC was also given the honor of taking part in the non-profit’s Workforce Development Program through the scheduled resume and interview workshop. Volunteers who assisted with this program spent time with the registered attendees to provide individual attention and a supportive environment while developing the participants’ resumes and interview skills.
After all was said and done, the volunteer teams at both Manna Food Center and A Wider Circle left feeling like a difference had been made. This, among many more, is one of the reasons why Lanigan, Ryan plans to continue involvement in the community through the 2017 Golf for Charity event this coming spring, as well as future community volunteer days. Our commitment to growth is not only something that we strive to achieve for our clients and our employees, but for our community as well.
